Each partner contributes unique expertise, from academic research and technological innovation to local development and community engagement.

Country: Spain

What they do:
Universidade de Vigo is a Spanish public university with strong experience in European research projects, environmental engineering, aerospace and transportation systems, biodiversity, forest ecology, rural studies and socio-territorial analysis.

Role:
UVIGO coordinates the STORCITO project and leads the overall management, data management and ethical assessment activities. The university also plays a central role in Case Study 1, contributing to the development of wildfire risk indices, the wildfire prevention application, the validation of wildfire prevention tools and the design of reproducibility guidelines for sustainable rural transformation.

What they do:
Contactica is a Spanish SME specialised in sustainability, exploitation, communication and dissemination of European R&D&I projects.

Role:
CTA leads the project’s exploitation, communication and dissemination activities. Within STORCITO, CTA supports the promotion of the project’s technical, social and organisational innovations for rural communities, coordinates outreach actions, contributes to the project’s communication strategy and supports the exploitation of key project results.

What they do:
INORDE is a local administrative body linked to the Provincial Council of Ourense, focused on promoting economic, environmental and social development in the province of Ourense, Galicia.

Role:
INORDE contributes to Case Study 1 by providing the location area for the validation of nature-based solutions for wildfire prevention. It coordinates the pilot testing of adapted NBS solutions and supports stakeholder engagement and dissemination activities linked to rural, forestry, livestock and agricultural communities in Galicia.

What they do:
Innogando is a Spanish SME specialised in Agrotech solutions for livestock monitoring, animal localisation and smart farming technologies.

Role:
INNOG contributes to Case Study 1 through the technological development and validation of adapted nature-based solutions for wildfire prevention. Its work focuses on upgrading RUMI collars and related digital tools to support GPS-directed cattle management, digital fencing and the use of livestock as a nature-based solution for rural firebreak maintenance and wildfire prevention.

What they do:
SINTEF is one of Europe’s largest independent research organisations, with strong expertise in applied research, innovation, technology development, sustainable transport systems, mobility governance and policy.

Role:
SINTEF leads Case Study 3, focused on climate-neutral and inclusive mobility in rural areas. It contributes to the design and implementation of on-demand shared mobility pilots, supports organisational and social innovation, and works on strategies to promote sustainable, inclusive and accessible mobility solutions for rural communities.

What they do:
Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s largest research universities, with strong expertise in environmental and resource economics, sustainability, renewable energy, behavioural research and the transition to a net-zero economy.

Role:
RUB leads Case Study 2 on community-energy solutions. Its work focuses on participatory and behavioural approaches to rural energy systems, including the implementation and evaluation of survey experiments and the development of a targeting algorithm to support community-energy solutions in rural areas.

What they do:
The Agricultural University of Athens is a Greek university with expertise in agricultural, environmental and natural resource sciences, including plant sciences, environmental engineering, applied biology, biotechnology and applied economics.

Role:
AUA contributes to Case Study 1 by supporting the transferability and replicability of wildfire prevention solutions in Mediterranean rural areas. Its expertise in natural resource management and agro-environmental systems supports the adaptation of STORCITO’s wildfire prevention approaches to different biogeographical contexts.

What they do:
Technische Hochschule Deggendorf is a German university of applied sciences with strong expertise in mobile systems, software engineering, GIS applications and the development of digital tools and applied technological solutions.

Role:
THDEG contributes to both wildfire prevention and community-energy activities. It develops the wildfire front-end application, coordinates work carried out in South Bavaria and leads the development of the CCUS community-energy application, supporting STORCITO’s digital innovation work across Case Study 1 and Case Study 2.

What they do:
Utrecht University, through the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, is a leading research institution in environmental science, sustainability transitions, energy systems, low-carbon power generation and energy modelling.

Role:
UU contributes to Case Study 2 by developing techno-economic models of Carbon Capture, Use and Storage options for the case study regions. The university also provides optimisation models to help identify viable CCUS options for local stakeholders and assess their potential impacts in rural community-energy systems.

What they do:
Nimmo is a Norwegian company with a strong focus on inclusion and sustainability. It develops software that enables sports clubs, municipalities, companies, organisations and other actors to organise shared transport for their members, inhabitants, employees and participants, making inclusive and environmentally friendly mobility more accessible to everyone.

Role:
Nimmo contributes to Case Study 3 by upgrading its on-demand mobility app for rural areas. The updated service will address the needs of additional vulnerable groups, including older residents and low-income citizens, and expand mobility purposes such as commuting, access to medical services and participation in leisure activities. Nimmo works closely with SINTEF and Gjesdal Municipality to evaluate the service in rural contexts.

What they do:
Gjesdal Kommune is a Norwegian municipality on the west coast of Norway, with experience in public transportation, mobility innovation, climate resilience and collaboration with local civil society organisations.

Role:
Gjesdal Municipality acts as the geographical test site for STORCITO’s rural mobility solutions. It also provides an administrative and political testing environment to explore how innovative mobility services can be integrated into public services and maintained over time, supporting the validation of inclusive and climate-neutral mobility solutions in rural areas.
