Case study 3
Smart, fair mobility for every village
Mobility is a cornerstone of rural life, yet many communities across Europe remain underserved, disconnected, or dependent on private transport.
STORCITO is working with residents and authorities in Boreal and Atlantic regions to co-design inclusive, climate-neutral mobility systems that reflect local realities. From developing on-demand shared transport apps to creating educational tools that support digital inclusion, this case study is helping to reduce isolation, increase access, and make everyday life more connected for everyone, regardless of age, income, or location.
The challenges we face:
- In many rural parts of Europe, getting from A to B isn’t just inconvenient; it’s a barrier to education, healthcare, employment, and social life.
- Sparse populations, long distances, and limited public transport options leave rural residents (especially youth, elderly people, and low-income households) isolated and underserved.
- Without access to safe, reliable, and inclusive transport, people are forced to rely on cars (if they can afford one), or risk being left behind altogether.
- Because mobility isn’t just about movement; it’s about access to opportunity, and the right to participate fully in society.
